Sock-A-Palooza

Sock-A-Palooza

Sock-A-Palooza returns this June!! 🧦

A lot of the Sweet Yarnies are obsessed with knitting socks. So, for the month of June, we'll be working away on making as many pairs of socks as we can.

You are welcome to join in the fun whether you've never knit a pair or knit 100 pairs. We’ll be doing a few draws at the end and have different ways for you to enter depending on your skill levels. (Check out the details below.)

Want to learn? Sweet Yarns is offering in store classes so you can learn to make toe up socks. Times available:
• Tuesdays (June 6, 13 & 20) from 11AM to 12PM
• Thursdays (June 8, 15 & 29) from 4:30 to 5:30 PM
• Or book your own times that suit you better during store hours

Cost is $50 plus supplies. Contact me at the store for more details and to book your spot.

Need supplies? I'll be sending in an order shortly if you are looking for needles. We’ve got a good variety of yarns perfect for socks in store as well as waiting for some new sock yarns to arrive. Following are some great choices (there's also some hand dyed ones available in store):

Sock-A-Palooza

Sock-A-Palooza is a sock making competition for the month of June. It's just some fun to see how many socks we can create in 30 days. And there will be prizes.

Make sure to join in our Virtual Knit Nights on Facebook. I'll be sharing tips on sock knitting and answering your questions throughout the month. And the winners will be announced on our July 6th Virtual Knit Night.

Below are all the details for the fun. Whether you've knit 100 socks or starting your first pair, there is a place for you.

Sock-A-Palooza Rules:

Beginner - anyone who hasn't knit socks before or is just learning. You will get an entry for each sock you complete. (A sock needs to weigh 35 grams or more.)

Intermediate - anyone who has knit a few socks but isn't obsessed with knitting them. You will get an entry for each pair you make. (A pair needs to weigh 75 grams or more.)

Advanced - those sock knitters who always have a pair on the go. You will get an entry for each pair you complete. (A pair needs to weigh 75 grams or more.) Try challenging yourself with something new (ie. new pattern, add a stitch pattern to your plan socks, try a different method, etc.).

A "pair of socks" can be baby socks, kid socks, shorties, etc. but you'll need to knit more than two socks per entry. The entry needs to weigh at least 75 grams.

Sock pairs don't have to match. If you've got lots of single socks that need a mate, you can work on them. (Please snap a pic of the singles prior to working on them and then another pic of the matched-up pairs when you are done.)

You can use any weight of yarn from fingering to worsted weight to make socks. They can be knit or crocheted.

All entries must be posted in our Sweet Yarnies group by June 30th at 11:59PM. (If you can't do this, let me know and we'll work it out.) Make sure to include:
• which group of sock makers you are in
• the sock pattern and yarn you used to make them

WIP (work in progress) entries:

*New this year* we’ve got two ways to WIP it up! We’ve always done a WIP entry to start Sock-A-Palooza but this year I’m adding in an ending WIP.

Starting WIP – a Starting WIP is a pair of socks that is already on the needles. To be included as an entry, the WIP needs to be less than halfway through the pair (no gussets, no heels). One entry per customer. We'll have WIP posting days on May 30th and 31st where you can share your submission that will be your Starting WIP. Watch for the reminder.

Ending WIP – an Ending WIP is a pair of socks that you didn’t quite finish during Sock-A-Palooza. The WIP needs to be more than halfway through the pair (gussets and heels completed). One entry per customer. We’ll have a WIP posting day July 1st where you can share your submission that will be your Ending WIP. Watch for the reminder.

All entries must be posted in our Sweet Yarnies group on the scheduled days. (If you can't do this, let me know and we'll work it out.) Make sure to include:
• which group of sock makers you are in
• the sock pattern and yarn you used to make them

If you have any questions about Sock-A-Palooza, please contact the store and I'd be happy to answer them.
